Bollywood and Cricket own every Indian's heart. And cricket is strongly considered the game of gentlemen. However, gentlemen too can have fun while playing their desired sport.
Cricket, too, is no stranger to funny happenings, both on and off the field. It could involve players or even happen due to outside interference, as it is ought to delight the fans.
On the same note, we look at the funniest cricketing moments.
Jarvo 69, 1st white Indian player.
First, a spirited performance from the Indian seamers helped the visitors beat England by 151 runs in the second Test and take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. During the game, the man - dubbed "Jarvo 69" - pulled off one of the most audacious pitch invasions ever seen, on day three of the Test match at the 'home of cricket'.
With England set to resume at 3/216 after coming back out from the lunch break, many noticed that the Indians had 12 men out in the middle. It soon became clear that one of the 12 players was in fact an imposter, who had somehow snuck onto the ground dressed in India's cricket whites.
The man could be seen remonstrating with officials and pointing at the badge on his shirt in a fruitless attempt at convincing them that he was part of the Indian team. Security quickly pounced on the pitch invader and escorted him from the ground as Indian players, commentators and viewers all shared a laugh about the iconic incident.
“Some random chap in whites had made his way into the middle with the Indian players, and he stood there as if he was about to take part in the Test match,” England great Michael Atherton laughed on Sky Sports.
Ishant Sharma mimics Steve Smith
This certainly was one of the best light moments of 2017.This funny moment came in the 2nd Test of Australia's tour of India at the start of the year.
The Australians started the tour on a high after defeating India in the first Test of the series by 333 runs. In the following Test, batting first, India was all out for 189 on the first itself. In the morning session of Day 2, Indian bowlers were trying hard to pick wickets but without much success. This left Ishant Sharma frustrated. In a moment of comic desperation, he tried to mimic Steve Smith after the Australian batsman was beaten on a good length delivery bowled by him.
Soon, that 'Sharma face' became the butt of a joke and social media was flooded with trolls and memes about the same. This moment made the commentators, as well as the spectators, burst into laughter. Even the Indian captain, Virat Kohli, was having a laugh at this epic moment.
Ravindra Jadeja celebration after taking 4 catches
Ravindra Jadeja was at the height of his powers across all three facets of his game, especially as a fielder, in the recent season of the Indian Premier League.
Jadeja pulled off one brilliant catch after the other besides scripting sensational run-outs to once again impinge himself as the best fielder of the modern era.
The left-hander had a field day when he claimed as many as four catches during one of the fixtures against the Rajasthan Royals and he made it a point to remind everyone about his record-equalling fourth catch.
Jadeja claimed his 4th catch at the expense of Jaydev Unadkat at deep-backward point, post which he celebrated by displaying his four fingers to express that it was his fourth catch of the match.
Later, the champion all-rounder made a hilarious phone-call gesture towards the dug-out that caught the eye of everyone.
Jadeja had a near-perfect game as apart from claiming four catches, he also claimed two wickets including the crucial scalp of Jos Buttler as CSK romped home to a comfortable 45-run victory.
Prithvi Shaw checking underpants after being hit on crotch
Prithvi Shaw courtesy of his whirlwind approach and authoritative stroke play gave us plenty of thrilling moments during the recent IPL. But, there was one moment when Shaw, even while experiencing excruciating pain, left everyone in splits.
It all happened during what turned out to be the last game of the 14th season when the pocket-size dynamo was struck on his ‘crown jewels’ after he missed an attempted pull shot against a pacy bumper by Riley Meredith.
Shaw immediately collapsed on the ground and looked in excruciating pain. The game was held up as the physio came on the ground to attend the opener.
However, by the time it looks like Shaw had recovered, the opener has the funny side of the incident as he checked underneath his undergarments and let out a smile.
Virat Kohli sticking his tongue out - That's quite a way to celebrate the fall of a wicket!
Speaking of interesting moments in the cricket match, I have to mention the Indian team captain Verat Kohli, who just celebrated its 13th anniversary yesterday. The aggressive Delhi boy Virat Kohli has a funny bone inside him, from silly dance moves to showing his tongue, the Indian skipper is known for his shenanigans. His frolics on the field will surely leave you in splits.
This hilarious moment came in the semi-final match of the Champions Trophy, which was played between India and Bangladesh. Bangladesh were in full flow at the start of their innings and no wicket had fallen in space of 100 runs, until Kedar Jadhav finally bowled out Tamim Iqbal.
Another quick wicket of Shakib Al Hasan pumped up the Indian team. Soon, Jadhav dismissed Mustfiqur Rahim as well. He was caught out by Kohli. His funny expression came thereafter and was a quirky sendoff for the Bangladesh wicketkeeper.
Soon, this expression became the topic of discussion on social media and the internet was flooded by hilarious memes by the end of the day. On the back of a wonderful knock played by Rohit Sharma and a supporting knock by skipper Kohli, India won the match quite comfortably and progressed to the final of the tournament.
